This summer with all my free time I was able to learn a new skill – baking. Baking had always been my enemy after a mishap with boxed cookies exploding in the oven but after hours on social media watching bakers make all kinds of cakes and cookies, I finally decided to give baking another shot. The first thing I attempted to make was cinnamon rolls since they had been a family favorite for years.
Let’s just say they turned out.. not as I had hoped. After sifting through a few different recipes including, croissants, macrons, breads, and many cinnamon rolls, I slowly got better. By the end of the summer, I perfected the cinnamon rolls and vowed to bake at least once every weekend once school started up again. So far I have held up on my promise. I sometimes wonder where I’d be if I hadn’t ignored my past failures and never found my love for baking, but I’m proud of myself for always trying again even if I have to look failure in the face many, many times. Now, with school starting, I have a release on weekends and my family has an endless stream of baked goods.
