Steph’s Review:
The first noticeable thing about The Beekeeper was the fact that it had been mislabeled as an action movie. I’m as much a billionaire as this clear-cut comedy is an action film. The true allure to The Beekeeper is the use of big-name actors like Jason Statham and Josh Hutcherson. Without a shark by his side, however, I found Stathem’s acting to be lacking. The plot was as follows – your average man watches a woman commit suicide and then kills the president’s cocaine-addicted, cyber-hacker son. You know, typical. I have to hand it to the filmmakers, in a world where it is increasingly harder to create a unique storyline, and instead, new movies use the same plot in a different font. This stood out. However, being unique does not give one the freedom to act horribly. I could get behind the plot, but the poor acting was unforgivable. Viewers were expected to forget they saw something just minutes ago to make the plot line work. I did enjoy certain points of the movie, actually, and had a good laugh, but the ending tied things up so poorly it would leave any coquette girly disappointed. If you are looking for an escape from rationality and a good laugh, you will be happy to have stumbled upon this movie. However, had you been looking for a chilling action movie like the trailer promised, you would be woefully misinformed.
