Review:
A sequel to Captain Marvel, Wandavision, and Ms. Marvel, The Marvels is a fun, entertaining 105 minutes. The action is unique and interesting, utilizing the “entanglement” aspect to great effect. The interactions and chemistry between the three main characters are the highlight of the film. Speaking of highlights, Iman Vellani’s portrayal of Ms. Marvel carries the film, enhancing both the comedic and dramatic moments. That being said, the film is far from greatness. The villain has the foundation of an intriguing backstory, but not enough time nor information was given to make them anything more than a generic antagonist. With a runtime of 105 minutes, the film flies by. A short film isn’t a bad thing, but many conflicts seemed too quickly resolved. If the film was maybe fifteen minutes longer, some needed additions could’ve been made to enhance the story. Overall, The Marvels is a good film. Just don’t go into it expecting Avengers 5, or you will be disappointed.
