All of my friends are hanging out and partying,
the “teenage dream” they say.
Not for me.
I read,
I listen,
I watch.
Everything is different when I’m alone.
The days feel longer and
the nights feel shorter.
When I’m alone
there is no arguing.
No one to tell me I’m wrong
or pick fights with me.
When I’m alone
I don’t need to worry.
Not about how others think of me
or how I look.
When I’m alone
there is no pressure.
To change how I look and
how I feel.
When I’m alone
everything is quiet.
I can hear the wind
and the birds
and the water.
When I’m alone
I don’t feel lonely.
I am alone by choice.
Although I love my friends
and my family,
being alone brings me peace.
This is my idea of the teenage dream.
