Dahlia

Samual Armand

A name and a flower
With many meanings
Dignified by the many medals
worn proudly around its neck
Devoted to a cause beyond our understanding
With unrivaled beauty
within the eyes of the beholder
Arms reaching for miles
A tender embrace that feels warm
Giving us a little bit more strength
to carry out our days
Heads held high and hand resting beside

Unassuming to us
The betrayal and hurt Dahlia can give
Pretty and tender to the touch
Once peered at by the rest of society
our prescription changes
Just out of reach
Wanting to feel that hug once more
Wishing for a bit more strength
to carry out our days
Change brings doubt. Doubt brings regret.
Regret – pain. Pain to sadness.
A never-ending cycle
Starting from an unassuming Dahlia.
Thornless, minuscule, innocent Dahlia.
Offered a little water to grow
Giving us everything we could’ve wanted
And taking everything we ever had.
A passionate red changes tints within seconds
when we add a dash of darkness to our paintings
A crimson shade
upon an unassuming Dahlia
Hopefully, we can know when to add a bit of light
before it’s too late to change the hue
