Backstory & Summary
Astroneer, a popular game that can be played on desktop, playstation, Xbox, nintendo, etc. This game is set in the 25th century, and you, as an astronaut working for Exo Dynamics, were sent on a mission to explore and colonize foreign planets. Though, it just so happens that these planets are in a whole other galaxy. This unknown, nameless galaxy has a total of 7 planets, and the one you start on is known as Sylva. This first planet will act as your starting point, where your new life begins, and where you will learn about everything you need to know to play this game. The basis of this game is to go around collecting the resources of the planet, which will eventually allow you to begin crafting new technologies and building bases.
The Beginning
When you first join the game, the first thing you have to do is obviously customize your avatar. The game provides several different suits, helmets, accessories, and colors, allowing the player the freedom to create their own character. Once you spawn in on the first planet, Sylva, you’ll begin by walking around the map collecting basic resources such as resin, compound, and organic. Using these resources you’ll be able to craft technology like tethers and small printers, each one playing a very important role in your progression. To do all of this though, you’ll be using what’s commonly known as the terrain tool. The terrain tool is basically a vacuum that will store your resources, and as is mentioned in the name, you’ll also be using it to edit the terrain itself. You’ll basically immediately realize the importance of editing the terrain, as it is used not just for finding resources, but also for things like building your future house or base. As you continue to progress in the game and acquire better technology, you’ll eventually build a space shuttle, which you’ll be using to travel to one of the other six planets in this unknown solar system.
Taking the Next Step
As just mentioned, you’ll eventually be crafting a space shuttle to travel to the other planets, a necessary part of finishing the game. These different planets will have not only different resources, but also new biomes to explore, new missions to complete, and new hazards to survive. Your technology will become more advanced and you’ll get even more experienced with the game. Another thing to mention is that this game isn’t just single player, its a co-op game that you can play with your friends or family. Explore different planets and build massive bases together, and even once you finish the game having explored and done everything, you can still participate in the seasonal events the game holds, or wait for big updates to bring more content. If you enjoy relatively peaceful games that you can build, gather, and craft in, then try Astroneer.
