When you think of crime, most people might think of burglary, murder, or tax fraud. In today’s sleuthing session, we examine a truly heinous act committed by an adult male against a child. You read that right, a CHILD. I don’t know about you, but one of my strongest beliefs is that children should be safe in society; physical and mental security is uber important. In April of this year, an 18-year-old was caught sending solicited pictures to a 12-year-old girl, trying to initiate intimate conversation. Some of his charges were a Class D Felony (these include the really bad crimes, such as armed robbery), endangering the welfare of a child (a misdemeanor, not as serious as a felony), and obstruction of governmental administration in the 2nd degree, a Class A misdemeanor (punishable by one year in jail or a hefty fine), according to the Broome County New York Gov. According to wbng.org, the man was difficult when being investigated. The audacity to be a creep and then not face the consequences is beyond me. How this man viewed a 12-year-old girl as a sexual object is scary, and it opens eyes to safety measures. DO NOT contact someone you do not know, nor send explicit messages to said person. Stay safe online and understand YOU are not an object. Whether you are a girl or boy or identify as anything else, stay safe and protect yourself. Creeps can be anywhere, even with people you swore you trusted. Seek help if a conversation or person is making you uncomfortable. You have a voice, and it’s up to you to use it. That’s all for now; see you in the next sleuthing session!
