The Disappearance of Michelle Harris

On September 11th, 2001, a historical tragedy occurred in New York City, resulting in the destruction of the Twin Towers. While state troopers nationwide in New York were busy dealing with the aftermath of the recent hijacked plane crashing into the two buildings, a mystery was about to unravel back in Tioga County that is still left unresolved today, 24 years later.
Michelle Anne Harris, ex-wife of Cal Harris, was reported missing the night of September 11th. Before vanishing, she had grabbed a drink with coworkers after her shift as a waitress at “Lefty’s”, a restaurant located in Waverly. Afterward, it was recorded that she went to Smithboro to see a boyfriend of hers a bit after 11:00 pm; unbeknownst to the group she was with, this was the last time not just they, but anyone and everyone would see Michelle ever again. The next morning, all that was left of her was her car, found outside of what was once the house she had shared with her ex-husband, Cal Harris.
Inevitably, due to secondhand accounts speaking up on the harsh, rigid relationship Michelle and Cal had seemed to have, Cal would then be placed into four trials, being accused of second-degree murder over Michelle. Yet, trial after trial, Cal denied and denied that he was guilty of killing Michelle despite his wife’s persistent disappearance. Despite the recorded secondhand accounts of the seemingly unstable relationship Cal and Michelle seemed to uphold, and the blood that belonged to Michelle found within the house, since there was no “body,” they couldn’t pronounce Cal “guilty.”
To this day, Michelle still remains missing. Her family and friends have been dealing with her sudden disappearance for 24 years now. In all honesty, the saddest part about this whole situation is that there’s no place Michelle’s loved ones can go to mourn her in peace. Michelle’s case has occasionally seemed to be reopened for investigation, but each and every time, they hit a dead end. That dead end being the inevitability of where Michelle could’ve gone.
