Recently, one of my life-long dreams was fulfilled. My family and I got a cat, our first pet! We had been thinking about getting her for a while, but when my Dad walked into the house with the carrier, our mouths all dropped. We named her Hayaa, which means “modesty” in Arabic. It’s a very fitting name because she’s really quiet and timid. At first, she was so nervous and shy that she hid under the treadmill in our basement for hours at a time. After spending more time with her, she became more outgoing and playful.
Overall, my family loves Hayaa. She’s the perfect addition to our family and we love spending time with her. She makes it easy because her favorite activity is napping. Whether I’m eating, doing homework, or watching a movie, I can expect Hayaa to crawl up into my lap and settle in for a solid hour.
We only have one small problem in the two months she has been with us. It was expected that she would scratch at things, but she chooses to scratch our nice furniture over and over again. It’s the one part about her that my Mom can’t get over. Even though she’s a little mischievous, we all love Hayaa, even if we have to protect the furniture when she’s around.
