One valuable thing that I learned over the summer was time management. Although school wasn’t in session, I still had a very busy schedule. I juggled working a six hour day, visiting colleges, filling out applications, playing field hockey daily, and having fun by spending time with friends and family. The hard part of time management is not starting. Rather, it’s the amount of maintenance it requires. I was forced to learn many small lessons in order to maintain successful management. Firstly, I learned that I had to be organized, this included preparing my sports bag and getting breakfast ready the night before. This made the transition out the door in the mornings seamless. I also had to learn how to make sacrifices. Doing everything (hanging out with friends, playing field hockey, and writing my college essay) simply wasn’t accomplishable. I had to learn how to prioritize certain activities or events. Some days, I would only be able to be with friends for an hour or two before returning home to work on more college selections. I became familiar with balancing my time, and prioritizing certain tasks I wanted to accomplish that day. Time management isn’t an easy feat, however it is accomplishable for all people as long as you make an active effort at it everyday!
