In the spirit of October being coined the “Spooky Month” by many, this edition’s fun fact is about Halloween!
Did you know, “Trick or treat” was not necessarily the original phrase children would shout out to receive candy? Rather, the origin is from a German-American Christmas Tradition. Children would dress up, go door to door, and ask if their neighbors could guess their true identity. If the adults weren’t successful in their guess, the children earned treats or goodies. According to The Library of Congress, when doing this Christmas tradition children would run around yelling “Belsnickel”.
