When I asked Margaret Wood to describe herself in one word, she chose “passionate.” That much is evident, considering she’s been a member of Bearfacts since her sophomore year and is currently our production manager!
Margaret is a senior at Vestal High School who joined Bearfacts at her friend’s suggestion. She wanted to improve her writing, which she admits wasn’t the strongest then. In tenth grade, Margaret wrote feature articles about seasonal holidays like Halloween and Christmas. She describes Bearfacts as a fun way to enter the Vestal High School community and start trying out clubs.
Now, Margaret is the production manager of Bearfacts. She doesn’t write often anymore, as she spends most of her time reviewing other journalists’ work, editing, and providing feedback. Margaret shares her responsibilities with the editor-in-chief and technology coordinator of Bearfacts. Despite their different titles, they all work together to keep the website running.
After high school, Margaret plans to attend Binghamton University to study occupational therapy. She also wants to work towards a master’s or doctorate. Margaret values the pursuit of knowledge and being financially independent.
As for her advice for new members of Bearfacts, Margaret hopes everyone will branch out and put in a consistent effort. Some things might not work out, she explains, but trying is worth it in case you find something that’s a perfect fit.
