The holidays are here, and with every holiday season comes finals, or in some cases, tests on tests. So how are the students of Vestal High School juggling all of this? Well, that’s a great question if I do say so myself. Let’s get into it.
Vestal High School has a diverse student group where each person has their own story to share and traditions to celebrate. Many celebrate Diwali, which is an Indian holiday that celebrates lights. This holiday is in November, with changing dates similar to Hanukkah. Hanukkah is a Jewish holiday that’s also celebrated all around the world. This holiday also has a tradition involving lights. They light one candle per day for eight days straight. We also have students celebrating Christmas this December. Christmas is a Christian holiday where people celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ on the 25th of December. So with all of these great holidays coming up, how have students been handling celebrating these holidays with their family and friends while also keeping up with the school work that is piling up?
Many students are trying to complete all their homework during school time. This season we’re seeing more than ever students trying to complete every single little bit of homework they have during class, during lunch, or during study hall. This is so they can spend time with their families after school. However, what about the people that don’t celebrate any holidays? How are they dealing with the stress? They are doing what I like to call teenage hibernation – the days before winter break when every student is slowly but surely losing every little brain cell they have and being less attentive in each class. There’s almost no way to stop this, it’s inevitable.
