Fall officially began on September 23, and although the trees haven’t completely changed color yet, fall activities are in full swing! If you are looking for a free and super fun time, the BU Nature Preserve is open to everyone. It has 11 miles of easy walking trails where you can see the cutest birds, deer, groundhogs, and chipmunks.
For fall foodies, the Cider Mill is the place to go. They make fresh donuts, and cider right in front of you, and have many other fall staples like candy apples or fresh pie. If you just want a quick drink, Starbucks and Dunkin both have their fall menus out. It’s finally time to have a pumpkin spice latte again.
An exciting October would not be complete without visiting Iron Kettle Farm in Candor or Stoughton Farms in Newark Valley. Iron Kettle has funny pumpkin displays, a corn maze, a petting zoo, a “fun barn” and other pumpkin-related activities. Stoughton Farms is known for its huge corn maze, which is dinosaur-themed this year. They also have hay rides, pumpkins for sale, fall candy, and a cow train.
For a rainy fall day, check out The Roberson Mansion and Museum which can easily double as a haunted house. Plan ahead to buy tickets for their “Family Halloween Spooktacular” which is taking place on Saturday, October 28. Roberson Museum has many different exhibitions every year, as well as an interactive model train set.
My all around favorite place is Apple Hills. Take a friend to enjoy picking apples, explore a corn maze, visit a petting zoo with the cutest goats, and eat tons of great food! Enjoy the fall spirit while it lasts, and have the best October ever.
