Bamboo

Ikjot Singh

I am given a bamboo plant seed
For the first year
I water the soil
And nurture the seed
With extreme care
Nothing happens
The dirt is still dirt
On the second year
I once again diligently
Water the soil
And nurture the seed
Nothing happens, it’s still
A pile of dirt
For the third year
I defeatedly
Water the soil
And nurture the seed
Nothing happened
Just a pile of dirt remained
On the fourth year
I felt like quitting
But I pulled myself up
And continued for another week
I told myself to quit if there were no results tomorrow
I went out the next day
Looked at the dirt in awe
There stood a
15-foot tall bamboo tree
I began to realize that
The roots took the
First few years to
Strengthen and expand
Then when the seed was done
Working on its roots
It had made explosive progress
