Invasion of the Spiders

Invasion of the Spiders

Macy Schafer, Journalist

An invasive species of spiders has recently begun to invade the U.S. starting in Florida and traveling up toward us in New York. They are called Joro spiders and originated in Asia (mainly in Korea, China, Taiwan and Japan). These huge spiders are about the size of your hand and leave their webs wherever they go. They originally spread to America in 2013 but scientists and followers of the spiders are starting to believe they are beginning an invasion on the continents. According to scientists, the Joro spiders travel by ballooning or parachuting using their webs. Though the spiders look intimidating, they are not poisonous and only eat bugs, deeming them helpful in ridding us of many of the pests in our houses and gardens.

UPDATE: According to NBC News, the Joro spiders really are invading! Grab your toilet paper and start digging your bunkers.Learn more here:https://www.nbcnews.com/news/amp/rcna19149
