For a Moment

Jia Parikh, journalist

Away from the chaos of the world
In the heat of the sun
You can distinguish the noises of nature
The rustling of the trees
The fluttering of a butterfly’s wings
The shouting of children from afar
The wind, letting your hair fly free
A car rushing past you
But you can hear it even when it’s gone
The noise of insects that is always there
As a reminder that you are never alone
The noise is barely there
But it overwhelms you
In a feeling of peace and tranquillity
You are in a trance
You never want to leave
You want to sit in that second
But you know,
You must savor that instant of pure serenity,
Because the world will move on
With or without you
For time is finite
And nothing lasts forever
Not even you
